Backshells accept shrink boots for additional environ-
mental and mechanical protection
These adapters have a shield sock attached to the rear of the adapter body, the method of shield
attachment is usually acomplished by means of crimping although other methods such as Band-it ®
band, soldering, magna-forming or Tinel locking system are also all supplied by Glenair. This shield
®
sock is then attached to the overall braid on the cable or harness. This attachment is most generally
performed by the use of a MIL-C-85049/93 back-up ring and then banding the over-lapped braids
together. Lipped-type heat shrinkable boots are available to enclose and protect the termination.
